Typical Florida pay ranges
Entry-level chairside dental assistants in Florida generally start in the high teens to low twenties per hour. Credentialed Expanded Functions Dental Assistants (EFDAs) commonly earn several dollars more per hour, and lead assistants in busy specialty practices can earn more still.
What moves your pay
- EFDA certification. The single biggest hourly bump. EFDAs do procedures non-EFDAs legally can't.
- Radiology certification. Required for most chairside roles in Florida — without it, you're harder to schedule.
- Specialty experience. Oral surgery, ortho, and pediatric offices typically pay above general practice.
- Bilingual (Spanish). Premium across most of Florida.
- Lead / trainer roles. Open up after 1–2 years with strong EFDA skills.
